Print on Demand (POD) is a business model where custom products, such as t-shirts, mugs, books, and other items, are created only when a customer places an order. Unlike traditional inventory models, POD does not produce or store inventory in advance; products are printed and shipped directly from the supplier to the customer only after the order is received.
How Print on Demand works:
Design creation: The seller creates custom designs that will then be applied to products available on the print on demand platform.
Platform integration: Platforms such as Printful, Printify, or Redbubble are often used, which integrate with online stores such as Shopify, Etsy, or Amazon. This allows products with the design to be listed and visible to customers.
Customer order: When a customer purchases a product from the store, the order is automatically sent to the print on demand supplier.
Production and shipping: The supplier prints the design on the selected product and handles its packaging and shipping directly to the customer, without intervention from the seller.
Profit per sale: The seller pays the supplier only for the cost of production and shipping, thus earning a profit on the difference between the sales price and the supplier's costs.
Print on demand allows entrepreneurs and artists to sell personalized products without inventory risk and with a low initial investment.
